Laura García Lorca |
The Magoproduction and MonkeyHeadFilms team traveled to Cadiz to meet Sara Baras and Laura García Lorca, two women firmly present in the life of Chavela Vargas. The flamenco dancer welcomed us into her house, where we talked about her relationship with the protagonist of the documentary and the importance of the Granada´s poet theatre play Mariana Pineda in that link. To our surprise, Sara invited us to the rehearsal of "La Pepa", a project designed to celebrate the Bicentennial of the Constitution of 1812, which also means the return of the artist on stage. We really appreciate the confidence of his manager and his sister, Bibi and Tricky.
The second part of the trip was just as exciting: we visited the Huerta de San Vicente, Lorca's summer housewhere he wrote his major works, a place that keeps the poet's mind intact. There, we had a touching conversation with his niece, Laura, the director of Fundacion Lorca and Chavela's close friend .Sara Baras |
