Chavela Vargas is 92 years old and
and is fulfilling one of her wishes: to make a tribute to the spanish
poet Federico Garcia Lorca. The book / CD is called "La Luna Grande" and
is motivated by an overwhelming desire: to express her love for the
poet, add music to his poems and remember her encounter with the poet’s
presence in Spain, encounter that remains in her soul until today.
Chavela's voice, as lighthouse of her memory and imagination, will
illuminate gradually that world to which only she has access and that
now has decided to share through a unique documentary directed by Rubén Rojo Aura and produced by Mago Production and MonkeyHeadFilms (Mexico) called El Ruiseñor y la Noche. The project will collect moments she is living, rehearsals,
the recording, presentations and gather statements from people close to
her and to the poet. In addition, following her desire of coming to
Spain, she will present the disc with the company of our cameras. She
will close the cycle in the place where all began and where it should
end. Chavela will have fulfilled his last dream, meeting again with the
presence of her old friend.
